I have always loved fishing on the Outer Banks and am constantly looking for information related to fishing, eating, or sleeping somewhere on the OBX. I also love web development and social networks, but never really thought about putting the two together until now. I am proud to announce OBX Report is the first social network for fishing, eating,...

In order to get your OUPV license, you need to have 360 days on the water operating a vessel. You can document the days you have spent by completing the Small Vessel Sea Service Form. The charter boat captains license (six pack), properly known as Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV), allows you to operate an uninspected passenger vesse...

On Saturday, we left Portside Marina out of Morehead City and followed a military ship headed to Haiti on our way to fish Cape Lookout on the Core Banks. It was a clear day with a high of about 60 degrees and the water temperature was 47 degrees. Winds were out of the Northeast at 6 - 8 mile per hour. A beautiful winter day for fishing!

On Friday night, we fished Artificial Reef #315 off the coast of Atlantic beach from about 9 PM till Midnight. It was a clear and windless night with the ocean as calm as any lake I have seen. It looked like a sheet of glass. The water temperature was 42 degrees with about the same for the air temperature. We used 24 inch leaders with 2 ounce weigh...

On the Outer Banks, as many as 5,000 residents of Hatteras Island were stranded when 800 feet of road along NN HWY 12 at Mirlo Beach was destroyed in the Nor’easter Ida this past weekend. Officials began transporting emergency vehicles and evacuating motorists via ferry Saturday. My son and I travel to Hatteras Inlet frequently for the excellent su...

I am headed to Hatteras in a few hours and plan on getting there well before the high tide at 8:09 AM for Hatteras Inlet. Night beach driving has not been permitted since May and now requires a permit until November 15th. You can download the permit, print it, sign it, and stick it in your dash/windshield.
